Who is Beaufort Research?

Beaufort Research is a market and social research business providing a range of quantitative and qualitative research services to customers in both the private and public sectors.

Beaufort Research is committed to protecting the privacy and security of personal data. This Privacy Notice describes how Beaufort Research (collectively “we” or “us”) collect and process personal data about you when carrying out a survey.

This Privacy Notice describes the categories of personal data that we collect, how we use your personal data and how we secure your personal data and when we may disclose your personal data to third parties.

We will comply with data protection law and principles, which means that your data will be:

  • Used lawfully, fairly and in a transparent way.
  • Collected only for valid purposes that we have clearly explained to you and not used in any way that is incompatible with those purposes.
  • Relevant to the purposes we have told you about and limited only to those purposes.
  • Accurate and kept up to date.
  • Kept only as long as necessary for the purposes we have told you about.
  • Kept securely.

What details do we collect and how do we use them?

We do not collect any information about criminal convictions and offences.

Who can access your details?

All details are stored securely on our servers and can only be accessed by Beaufort staff involved in research projects. Your Identity Details are not shared with any other organisation unless you provide your express consent for this to happen. However, we do share the aggregate data listed in the table above in order to provide feedback to our client.

Data Security

We have implemented appropriate physical, technical, and organizational security measures designed to secure your personal data against accidental loss and unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. In addition, we limit access to personal data to those employees, agents, contractors, and other third parties that have a need for such access.

Data Retention

Except as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law or regulation, we will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider applicable legal requirements, the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your personal data, the purposes we process your personal data for, and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means. For example, any personally identifiable details used to make contact following the survey will be held for a maximum of 3 months after the end of the project.

Transferring information outside the UK

We may transfer the personal data we collect about you to France, as some of our servers we may use to process the surveys are located in France. There are adequacy regulations in respect of France, which means that France is deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for your personal information.

To ensure that your personal information does receive an adequate level of protection, we have put in place appropriate measures to ensure that your personal information is treated by any third parties in a way that is consistent with and which respects UK law on data protection. Further information about these protective measures is available upon request.

Your rights

As advised above, any personally identifiable details used to make contact following the survey will be held for a maximum of 3 months after the end of the project but if you wish these to be removed from our systems at any time, you can email dataprotection@beaufortresearch.co.uk or by writing to us at Beaufort Research, 2 Museum Place, Cardiff, CF10 3BG informing us of this.

In addition, in accordance with the UK GDPR you have the legal right to:

  • The right to be informed.
  • Access data we hold on you.
  • Rectify any inaccuracies in data we hold on you.
  • Limit any processing on data we hold on you.
  • The right to data portability.
  • Object to processing.

If you are not satisfied with Beaufort’s response, or believe we are not processing your personal data in accordance with the law you can make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Changes to this Privacy Notice

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Notice at any time, and we will provide you with a new Privacy Notice when we make any updates. If we would like to use your previously collected personal data for different purposes than those, we notified you about at the time of collection, we will provide you with notice and, where required by law, seek your consent, before using your personal data for a new or unrelated purpose. We may process your personal data without your knowledge or consent where required by applicable law or regulation.
